The new Audi e-tron GT has now been revealed.
Its sleek appearance, incredible power and impressive charging time puts this vehicle in direct competition with four-door coupe EV’s currently on the market.
This RS model will sit, as you’d expect, at the very top of the line-up. It uses a 94kWh battery as standard, a two-speed gearbox, a rear locking differential and one electric motor on either axle, and develops 591bhp and 850Nm of torque. An over boost function increases that to 638bhp and going from 0-62mph in less than 3.5 seconds.
This is the first Audi RS model to go fully electric, skipping the plug-in hybrid stage altogether and beating rivals BMW M and Mercedes-AMG to market with emissions-free motoring. The Audi e-tron line up is already well established within the electric market with it SUV and crossover line up, but this is the model that we have all been waiting for.
Its sporty design takes inspiration from the Audi RS7 Sport back’s rear end and the slatted rear diffuser look suitably aggressive without the need for any fake exhaust pipes. Although it is not a curvy as the Porsche Taycan, it looks a lot sportier than the other models currently on the market.
There is no shortfall on quality when it comes to the interior either. The concept provides everyday usability and comes with a quality feel to it. The designers have chosen to use sustainable materials, matching its statement of contemporary automotive design. The Audi e-tron GT concept comes with a vegan interior.
So how much is this going to set you back?
An entry level e-tron GT model starting cost will be £80,850, while top-spec Vorsprung models will start from £106,950. The GT has already been named by GQ as 2021’s ‘Hottest Car?’ With its look, capability and celebrity attention it is easy to see why.
The question is, could the e-tron GT rival the Porsche Taycan? It is absolutely a more than credible alternative and right now, there is room at the EV coupe table for two heavyweights, high-performance protagonists.
